The JHPCE recently put into production a 1.2 PB Lustre file system for the remarkably low cost of $135/TB (exclusive of R&D expenses). In addition the system is green: It consumes about half the power of any Lustre system that we are aware of. It may very well be the lowest cost and lowest power parallel file system on the planet (on a per TB basis). The economics and performance of this novel system are compelling. Based on this success, we and our co-developers at BioTeam, decided to hold a Disruptive Storage Workshop to teach other academic institutions how to spend fewer research dollars on storage and more in the lab. Visit the Disruptive Storage Workshop web page for more information.
